If you’re looking to start a WordPress blog cheaply, then choosing SiteGround for your hosting needs may be your answer. SiteGround is a great web host and I personally have had a great experience with them.
Sharing faith through blogging has been the best thing for me. As you can tell as you browse through my site, I’m able to share my knowledge, my hopes, dreams, faith, resources with a whole new group of people that I would otherwise never have known
I am able to encourage others in their faith. Doing that helps my own faith grow and makes my life so much more purposeful. If you’re looking to grow in your faith, share your journey, and help others, blogging is for you, too!
Plus, anyone can make money with a blog, and I was able to make the money back that I paid for blog hosting very quickly. There are free ways to start a blog out there, but you have to be careful.
With the majority of them, you don’t own your content, and it can be taken down any time. It is well worth it to pay for blog hosting, and I’m sure you will be able to make your money back quickly as well.
SiteGround is one of the top web hosting companies in 2019, and you can start your own blog with them for as low as $2.99 a month (this low price is through my link. It’s a special promo price).
Also, when you sign up using my link, then you’ll get your domain free if you purchase a 12 month or longer hosting plan. This is a $15 value! I definitely recommend signing up for the 12 month hosting plan through SiteGround. It’s extremely affordable, and you can save tons of money signing up this way.
Plus, they have a 30 day refund policy, so you can cancel if you decide it’s not for you. Be sure and read their terms carefully. While the hosting price can be refunded, I don’t believe they refund the domain name cost.

You may be thinking, “Well, I can just start a free blog somewhere instead of paying for one. NOOO! Don’t do that! There are so many reasons why those free blog sites are not a good idea and why you should instead setup a WordPress blog on SiteGround.
As I mentioned earlier, when you go with a free platform, you don’t actually own the content of your blog. The company does. So, if you are interested in earning any income at all or in turning it into a business or ministry, paying for your hosting through a site like SiteGround is a must.
You’ll own your content and have control over advertisements, affiliate links, content, etc. It’s difficult if not impossible to earn money through free hosts as they aren’t seen as being for professional bloggers.
Even if you think you don’t need to earn any income in your faith blog, you might someday. It’s nice to even just make enough to pay for the hosting fees plus a little extra for giving and for your own budget. That’s why Loving Christ is a self-hosted WordPress blog. I use SiteGround as my host.
There are many reasons why you may want to choose SiteGround for your WordPress blog, and I honestly believe they are one of the best web hosting providers. These reasons include:
- It’s easy to use. Yes, ANYONE can create a WordPress blog easily with my tutorial below. SiteGround makes it very easy to create a WordPress blog.
- SiteGround is extremely affordable. You pay the low price blog hosting which starts at only $3.95 per month.
- You get a FREE domain name.
- WordPress is FREE through SiteGround.
- SiteGround is FASTER than most other hosts. Web pages load so much faster which keeps readers around and clicking.
- SiteGround is SAFE. They offer some of the best hack protection and account isolation (that means they guard your site).
- SiteGround SUPPORT is amazing. I’ve never waited more than a few minutes to get a reply to my questions or concerns. I am not exaggerating. They are always right there to help.
- You will be self-hosted. If you want to monetize your blog, this is important.
- You will appear much more professional to readers, companies, and so on if you are self-hosted on SiteGround.

How to start a WordPress blog on SiteGround
1. Choose your hosting plan
SiteGround has three plans and you can choose the one that works best for you. I started with the StartUp plan, and that’s where you should start too unless you have multiple blogs. I’m with the GrowBig plan now, but I didn’t switch to that until a year or so after I started blogging.
Here is some more information about the different plans:
- The StartUp plan is perfect for people with one website that are starting now
- The GrowBig plan is a great value for money offer, including the option for multiple websites and the SuperCacher that greatly improves a WordPress and Joomla website speed
- The GoGeek plan is perfect for people with e-commerce and larger sites, or more geeky development needs like staging and GIT integration
All plans include free domain registration.
Step 2. Choosing Your Domain Name
A free domain is included in your hosting plan. This is a $12 – $15 value. Think about what you want your domain name to be. It’s important, so give it serious thought.
I chose Loving Christ Ministries because He is a loving Christ, and I want to live every day loving Christ. Get it? I love my domain name so much!
You can click here to purchase a domain name and create a blog. Just click Web Hosting, choose your plan, and then you’ll be at the screen to choose your domain.
Step 3. Review and Complete
I highly recommend SiteGround‘s special discount through my link. You will get the low price for the one year period, so it makes sense to sign up for that whole period. Plus, remember, you get your domain name free when you sign up for the year. (In the sample below, the GrowBig package has been chosen. Remember, you just need the StartUp for the lower price when you’re just beginning).
4. Install WordPress on SiteGround.
Okay, this is probably the step that all of you have been waiting for. If you want to start a WordPress blog on SiteGround then continue reading.
This part isn’t hard at all. SiteGround makes it very easy to create a WordPress blog and it is FREE.
- Log in to your SiteGround account.
- Install manually – click here for manual installation directions.
- Or EVEN EASIER, use the SiteGround Wizard – click here for the wizard directions.
- Or EASIEST, ask SiteGround support to install WordPress for you. I did this when I first started, and the were so nice to do it quickly. They have live chat support or you can open a ticket and send a message. They get back to you right away (I’ve never had to wait more than maybe ten minutes).
- Remember to save your username and password.
AND THAT’S IT!! You now have a WordPress faith blog. You’ll have to learn the basics of getting started, installing a theme, and writing posts (I have tutorials on that coming very soon), but you can do it! Email me if you have questions about ANYTHING in the process.
Some general tips for how to navigate WordPress:
- You’ll want to save your WordPress login information somewhere safe. It’s different than your SiteGround log in.
- You can add and create new posts by clicking on “Posts” on the left-hand side when you are logged in. If you want to add a page, simply click on “Page.”
- If you want to add an image, click on “Media” on the left-hand side.
- Go to “Appearance,” then “Widgets” in order to add items to your sidebar, footer, etc.
- To build an email list to send newsletters and build your community, you need an email service provider. I recommend MailChimp or ConvertKit. I started with MailChimp and now use ConvertKit since my email list has grown so much.
- If you are looking into the actual design of your blog, Genesis seems to always be the most popular. I use Genesis here on Loving Christ. The Genesis Framework is like the skeleton of the blog, and then I use a child theme called Anchored from Restored316. Or, you can use free themes in WordPress if you’d prefer. Go to “Appearance” on the left-hand side when you are logged into your WordPress website and click on “Themes,” then activate whichever one you are interested in testing.
