January Prayer Journal Prompts
This post contains January Prayer Journal Prompts to help you focus on prayer in order to connect to and build your relationship with Jesus.
Hey there! As the holiday season winds down, I know you’re probably getting ready to set your goals and resolutions for the New Year.
**Updated January 2023**
I’m not making any resolutions this year, are you? I used to make them but found my motivation waning by mid-March.
I’d sporadically work towards my goals until eventually I gave up. I’d convince myself that it was okay. I wasn’t toooo bad off anyway. I could always try again the next year.
And while those things I told myself were true, I’d get so frustrated when months would pass and I wouldn’t be where I wanted to be physically, financially, or spiritually.
I knew that rather than set resolutions at the beginning of each year, I needed to be intentional in every area important to me right now.
Last July, I bought my first Living Well Planner and began making goals. I’ve tried using planners before but never had found one that had room for everything I needed.
Ruth Soukup, the Living Well Planner creator, knows exactly how to motivate me (and 1000’s of others) to not only set goals but reach them, too.
I’m a huge fan of hers, so I watched a few videos on YouTube about the planner and made the purchase. I LOVE it!
I used the budget pages in the planner plus my YNAB app to get back to the basics of our financial goals.
My husband and I both use YNAB; we sync it up and can enter purchases immediately and keep track of budget balances. You can try YNAB free for over a month HERE.
Mark and I are 2007 graduates of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University which we took after we read Total Money Makeover.
I’m sad to admit we haven’t been perfect in our gazelle intensity and have slipped back into some credit card debt.

We’ve been working on that since last July and while we’re still a little ways from being debt free again, I’m so thankful we didn’t wait to start paying things off.
Becoming intentional in my prayer life was super important to me, too.
That’s why over two years ago, I begin writing and sharing prayer prompts with and for you all. I use them, too! Knowing that you like them keeps me providing them here on the blog.
I don’t want to let you down! Intentional faith in my days also comes from writing my ‘In 30 Days’ Bible studies. Acts in 30 Days was first.
John in 30 Days came next. More are on the way. These studies have kept me in the Word which has definitely kept me growing spiritually.
So, what I’m trying to say is….even though it’s New Year’s, there’s no need to only make goals during this time of year. Decide each day to create goals for yourself so that you can keep growing, learning, and living fully!
If you’re new to Loving Christ Ministries, be sure to check out previous prayer prompts such as the one from December. We’ll be adding new prompts every month until the calendar is full of them!
It’s my prayer that you’ll use these free prayer journal prompts to live intentionally in your faith.

Hello, I am the Bereavement Coordinator for Catholic Cemeteries in Cleveland OH and I would love to use your January journal prompts as part of our Grief Support handout for this month. I will cite your website as the source of the information (I see that it is already included on the version I downloaded). If I see future content on your website that would be useful for our grief support groups, can I print those as well, along with your website citation or would you like a separate request for each intended use. Thank you for your helpful aides and all that you do.
