In Peace I Trust – How to Recognize the Peace of God in Your Life
Have you ever prayed for the peace of God and guidance from Him and wondered if you would know for sure if His direction would be clear for you? I have. I worry that I won’t know what He is calling me to do.
Typically, I include a disclaimer in my prayer – “Please God, whatever you ask let it be clear and let me know it’s from You.” As if He needs to hear that disclaimer; He knows what to do. My own need for control and my lack of confidence in myself and yes, in Him, too, causes me to pull my trust back and try to direct Him in how He leads me.
1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.
The Peace of God
As I’ve learned, believing is not just saying ‘I believe’. Believing is trusting the One you say you believe in. And so, to truly live that trust, I have to let go of my disclaimers and allow God to direct me and trust Him and myself to know in which direction He leads.
When there’s a situation for which you ask for guidance and you want to know how to find the peace of God, make sure you remember to not only ask but also to listen.
Remember these things:
1. Quiet your mind
2. Stay in prayer
3. Allow Him to continue to envelop you
4. Listen
Do you feel peace? Does it feel right? Even just a little? – a little bit of peace that can show you it’s time to move in a particular direction – that is God. If we truly trust and remember to listen, He will not confuse us or scare us. He will provide peace within and towards the direction He wants us to go.

Thank you for writing this! God has been teaching me about staying in peace and “happiness” so that I can hear him. As one mentor told me-my job is to just be my happy self, even when the circumstances would seem to be anything but peaceful.

Exactly right! Love your mentor’s advice!

I really needed this today. I recently moved to Canada a month ago, and the settling process has been long and stressful. I’ve been trying to seek God through it all, but often find it to be difficult especially when I let my stress get the best of me. I will try this exercise!

Jasmine, moving is always so stressful. I will add you to my prayers. Yes, take the time to be still and listen…be still and KNOW He’s God. Bless you!

Completely agree. Belief is not meant to be a superficial word but a deep-rooted thought. During our trying moments, it the unwavering trust in Him that shines the guiding light upon us.

So true. When we submit it all to God…including our thoughts…He bring such an amazing peace.
Julie Pfeifer says
He sure does! The key is being willing and able to submit it to Him and then recognizing the peace He gives us. So amazing!
