Simplest Shredded Chicken Recipe Ever | Great for Large Groups!

I’m almost embarrassed to dedicate an entire blog post to this very quick, super simple, unbelievably tasty shredded chicken.

It’s just so easy!

We use it when we have a taco bar for one of our retreat meals. We use a simple slow cooker ground beef recipe, too.

One slow cooker full of this chicken recipe can feed approximately 20.

It can be stretched further on a taco bar with plenty of other toppings and options.

For a retreat with 50 ladies, we made one crock of shredded chicken and one of ground beef and had plenty.

We offered corn and flour tortillas and had plenty of other toppings such as lettuce, tomato, black olives, cheese, sour cream.

As always, we offered a full salad bar and plenty of desserts, too.

The chicken was a huge hit. I make it at home for my family and we use it to make nachos, shredded chicken sandwiches, and buffalo chicken dip, too.

Ingredients

*1 bag of frozen chicken breasts (I use the 3 lb. bag of generic)

*1 Cup Chicken Broth

*1 package taco seasoning (I use Old El Paso because it’s gluten free and one of my GF ladies suggested it to me)

Directions for Slow Cooker Shredded Chicken

Put the entire bag of frozen chicken breasts in the slow cooker.

Sprinkle the package of taco seasoning over the chicken.

Pour the 1/2 can of chicken broth over the top.

Cover and cook on low for about 6-8 hours. When the cooking time is up, shred the chicken with two forks. It pretty much just falls apart. Dee-licious!

Hope you enjoy!

  1. Trying this recipe out today for our big family dinner/game night, so excited!!
What size can of broth? Large or the small 14oz can……thank you in advance

    1. Oh good! I think you’re going to love it! I use half of the small (14 oz) can of broth. In a pinch, I’ve made it with the same amount (approx cup) of water, but it’s really much better with the broth. Hope you enjoy! Julie

  2. Can I season it with something other than taco season & mix with bbq sauce? Have you ever tried that?

    1. I have made it with just the chicken breast and a full bottle of bbq sauce. I cooked it on low for 6 hours, and it shredded beautifully. I’m sure the cook time might depend on your slow cooker. Yummy!

    1. It is sooo easy, and if you’re just making it for the family there’s always plenty leftover. It freezes well, too. Thanks so much for stopping by! God bless!

  3. Love the recipe — I fix it at home often –usually instead of the broth – I add a jar of salsa. My favorite one to add has black beans and corn in it. Usually for the tortilla wraps we add some rice.

I have also tried it with regular salsa and with the southwest flavored chicken broth.

  4. Love chicken tacos. Never thought of crockpot and leave it. This would make life sooo much easier. Thanks for sharing.
