During our recent retreat, I was surprised by the many women who when we began talking about spiritual gifts very seriously stated, “I don’t have any gifts.”
It was sad, really, but honestly, I know I felt the same way about it not too long ago. I mean, I can’t sing. I can’t dance. I can’t play a musical instrument very well.
I am the farthest from creative you could ever possibly imagine.
Romans 12:6-8 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
Spiritual Gifts Come in Many Shapes and Sizes
All the things that seemed to stand out to me as a gift eluded me. It wasn’t until I realized the true expanse of what all can be considered a gift and that yes, I did have one (or two), that I realized I have something to share.
When I took the Spiritual Gift assessment, I scored highest on faith, and that made sense to me. I have loads of faith. What else am I good at? Talking! I love to talk…Ha! But it’s true.
And what better gift to go along with faith could there be? Once I realized that I could serve God by talking about my love for Him and my faith in Him with other women, then I knew I had a gift.
There are Varieties of Spiritual Gifts, but It is the Same God Who Empowers Them All in Everyone
1 Corinthians 12:4-11 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit.
Taking the Spiritual Gifts Assessment Helps Guide Each Person to Her Strongest Gifts
Not everyone has come to understand they have gifts, too. That was made so obvious when I heard people voice their concerns that they had no spiritual gifts.
I got a little teary when they finished the assessment, circled their top three, and started nodding heads in agreement with what they saw.
Ladies, that’s what we pray for with Loving Christ Ministries…that each and every woman understands her true potential, how much she is loved, and what she has to offer.
This assessment, which only takes maybe half an hour to complete, makes a difference and can help put a name to what your gifts are. This is not our original creation. I received the assessment from my kids’ youth director who does it with the confirmands (7th graders) each year. It is marked in the footer that it originally comes from St. Charles, MO, First United Methodist Church.
You might also like this list of descriptions of each listed gift which helps explain things a little further. I collected scriptures about our gifts, some of which I’ve included at the top of this post and some at the bottom.
However, I’m linking to them here in PDF form, too, so that you can have them all together. We ALL have a gift to share. What’s yours? Find it. Use it. Praise Him!

We are Called to Use our Spiritual Gifts to Serve One Another
1 Peter 4:10-11 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Romans 12:4-5 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

I was so excited when I found the Spiritual Gifts Discovery sheet. The women in my Bible Study group were eager to “dig in” and explore. It was amazing to discover how accurate the checklist was (if the individual was true to themselves) in their responses. The descriptions and scripture references made it a valuable tool in moving from understanding/awareness to developing and challenging ourselves as Christian women acting on our faith. Thank you!
