You Can Change Your Life and Change the Life of Others when You Start a Christian Blog
In the spring of 2012, my dear friend and I began a women’s ministry. We didn’t really know what we were doing.
Driven by our love for God and our concern that too many women felt unworthy of His love, we set out to share what we’d learned with them.

We began holding women’s retreats available to ALL women regardless of faith. I decided to learn how to create a blog so I could share retreat information with more people.
I created the blog, A Loving Christ, to go along with our ministry. I didn’t know anything about blogging and never expected to make a dime from it.
I also began writing about my issues with self-worth, my crisis of faith, the grief I felt over the death of my best friend.
It wasn’t long before readers began reaching out to me letting me know how I’d touched their lives with my words.
I had no idea!
But after learning how to create a blog and seeing the difference I could make through my faith, my life completely changed. I never realized it, but I’m so glad I decided to venture into the unknown world of blogging.
Figuring out how to start a blog has definitely been the best thing for me. Because of that, I’m going to tell you a little more about how blogging has changed my life along with reasons why you might also want to consider creating a faith blog.
After all, it has truly been a dream for me.
Blogging changed my life. It allows me to share what I’m passionate about, write about all I love, and, as a bonus I never expected, it allows me to earn extra income, all by doing something I love.
I found out about blogging one day from my brother who ran a few self-hosted sites on the blogging platform WordPress. He taught me enough to get started.
I, a computer teacher by day, enjoyed learning the tech ins and outs and figuring out how to make it all work.
As I began posting and receiving positive feedback, first from friends and family and then from people I don’t even know (that was just wild to me!), I wanted to know more and more about how to blog successfully.
To me, success at that time was reaching as many people as possible with my message about faith, passion, and purpose.
I discovered the book, How to Blog for Profit without Selling Your Soul by Ruth Soukup in July 2014. The book gave me the starting framework for monetizing my blog. I implemented each step, discovered a better understanding how blogging works, and began making my first income. It was literally cents per day, but those cents showed me what could be possible.
In September of that same year, I enrolled in the very first Elite Blog Academy. Ruth Soukup, the author of How to Blog for Profit created EBA, and that course was truly the catalyst that changed my blogging journey. I’d never known people could actually make money from blogging.
In Elite Blog Academy, I learned step by step how to create content that would be relevant long-term, bring readers to my blog, and earn an income.
While my husband and I were unsure about the cost of the class as we’ve always been on a tight budget, he was fully supportive, and we knew the guidance and information could help my blog grow and reach more people.
Once I completed the program (all the way through… it does take time and consistency), I quickly earned back what I’d invested in the course plus more.

Originally, I did not create my blog with the intention of making money, rather I wanted to let women know they are worthy, and I wanted to share with them how to live their passion through Christ.
It was all just a hobby and an outlet, but I soon realized how much I loved blogging and realized I’d finally found my passion!
This was a huge step for me because I had long struggled with my own self-worth, and so I still had to fight my feelings of, “But what do I know about God and faith.” I just met those doubts with lots of prayer and meditation, and God laid it on my heart that my goals were worthwhile.
Blogging changed my life in ways such as:
- I love what I do and look forward to doing it each day. I FINALLY found my passion after not believing I had one my entire life.
- I am able to help others know their own worth and grow in their faith in God.
- It has allowed us to give more – to our church and to the charities we’ve chosen.
- It has allowed us to pay off debt and worry less about money.
- It has given me purpose.
- It has grown my personal support community. My readers are family.
There are many reasons to start a blog, and I have found it to be well worth it.

Here are 8 reasons to learn how to start a faith blog.
1. You can help others if you learn how to start a faith blog.
Even though I didn’t realize it would happen when I first started my blog, as it has grown over the years I have helped many people – including myself!
Your blog can definitely help others that you probably would have never reached without it. You may help them by leading online bible studies, by sharing your own faith journey, by teaching them how to get out of debt, create amazing DIY projects, bake the best pastries.
Whatever you’re passionate about, you can blog about it, and with a faith-based aspect, you’ll touch even more people.
For example: My blog posts help and motivate others to pursue their dreams and understand their worth in Christ (it’s who we are!).
I have received many emails over the years from readers who I have helped, and it makes it all worthwhile. I have a folder in my email program called ‘from Readers’ where I file and keep every single email my readers send. I respond to them all and then save them. Helping readers is the best!
2. Blogging is so much fun.
I never knew about blogging before I started. I didn’t know it existed, and I sure didn’t know it would be so much fun. I only started to promote my women’s retreats. Then, I kept going. And kept going. And kept going.
Now that I’ve been blogging almost 6 years, I can’t imagine living without it!
I enjoy helping others through their grief or understanding their purpose. I love to read my fellow bloggers’ posts, working on my blog, and writing. I love the time I spend in prayer, reflection, and meditation with God in order to know His inspiration for what I write.
I just love it so much!
3. The blogging community is amazing.
I’ve made so many good friends through my blog – both other bloggers and readers. These have grown into great friendships that I probably would have never made otherwise.
Recently, my parents’ house, our home place, burned to the ground. My parents barely escaped and had nothing with them except their pajamas they were wearing.
Dad didn’t even get his glasses. They are okay now and will rebuild, but my attentions, of course, were with them. I reached out to a group of bloggers for help and immediately they came to my aide offering guests posts for A Loving Christ so I wouldn’t have to worry.
As I said, the blogging community is simply amazing.
4. You can be your own boss.
So many times I’ve wanted someone else to tell me what I should do with certain aspects of my blog. That comes from my lifetime of insecurity.
But I’ve learned that this is my blog, for others, through God, and whatever I decide, as long as I decide it with love and faith, is okay.
With blogging, you can do that. You can be your own boss, and that’s a huge positive of blogging. You can decide what topic you’ll write about, your schedule, your goals, and more.
5. Blogging can help you grow.
Blogging has helped me grow over the years.
Just as I mentioned above, I looked to others for approval and encouragement before. Those things are important and wonderful to get, but I now know that I do not have to have them before moving forward with my dreams and goals.
My personal growth, my confidence, and my faith have grown so much through blogging.
6. You don’t need previous experience to be successful.
In order to create your own blog, you don’t need any previous experience.
I didn’t have any when I began A Loving Christ. I just had a desire and passion for what I believed in. I sure didn’t know I could ever make money from blogging.
With blogging, there’s always lots to learn, but it’s not impossible. It’s just challenging, and that’s a good thing.
7. You can make a living blogging.
You can actually make a living blogging. Right now, I’m still at my ‘day job’ teaching computer applications to middle school students. With what I’ve been making, though, I know I’m on my way to having the option to blog full time. I may or may not take that option, but I love that I will have the choice!
Not everybody will become a successful blogger. It’s not a get rich quick scheme, for sure. But there are many successful bloggers who started out small and grew huge. There’s plenty of room in the blogging world for all of us.
If you ever think, but there’s so many (insert niche) out there, just remember – there’s no other YOU out there sharing your experiences and perspectives. Perhaps you will be able to make a living from your blog or at least supplement your current income.
8. Blogging works well for freelancers.
You may not want to become a full-time blogger, and that’s okay.
By having a blog, people can learn more about you, about your business, they can find you and see samples of your work. Without a strong web presence, people may never know who you are.
If you’re a writer, a speaker, a graphic designer, or the like, a blog can help you garner more business.
