How does knowing Christ move and motivate you? Here’s how He moves me:
I think about the way He moves me each moment of my day.
Who am I in Him?
How can I live His love through my actions?
No fear of failure holds me back in living the life I love because He loves me.
Ephesians 6:7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people…
A few years ago, I sat in a one-day retreat with ladies from my church. We had broken off into small groups and were discussing Christ in our lives.
“How do you feel each morning knowing Christ is right there with you, a part of your day?” our group leader asked.
A few women spoke up right away – “Happy I’m not alone.” “Nervous that I’ll disappoint Him.” “Thankful He loves me.”
I thought long and hard about their responses and considered how I felt. At times in the past, I might have just nodded and uh-huhed with the others because I did agree, but seldom would I contribute my own thoughts even when I felt more.
I wasn’t always confident my own thoughts were ‘right’ when it came to God and spiritual things. I mean, what did I know? But I had been studying and learning because I was desperate to know my own answers.
I’d been struggling with grief and had literally gone from fearing that God didn’t even truly exist to feeling the Holy Spirit moving in me. It took a very long time (years) of immersing myself in scripture, Bible study groups, church services.
I thought about my quest to know God and about what it truly feels like to recognize His Holy Spirit in me each day, and I knew how I wanted to answer. “I feel motivated,” I said. “Knowing Christ lives in me motivates me to do things in His name, to share His love, and to allow the joy that is Him guide me.”
Moments with clarity such as these are wonderful. I love feeling like I truly know Him. I’ve found though, if I don’t take an active role in maintaining my relationship with Jesus, they truly can just be moments. With the daily living we are all required to get through, it doesn’t take much to step away from our active quest for Him. I learned that when I become complacent in my relationship with Christ, I get too wrapped up in the troubles of the world and lose my motivation.
While we must be aware of and address this world, it works so much better if we take the time, even just a few moments each day, to refresh and renew our commitment to Christ so that we can recognize His Spirit in us and be motivated to take on the day together with Him.
Think about what you can do today to strengthen your relationship with Jesus. Can you say an extra prayer? Read an extra scripture? Sit for a few moments in a quiet room and listen to what He has to say?
Today’s Prayer: Dear Lord, I ask today that you fill me with your Holy Spirit and motivate me to DO and to LIVE immersed in You. Amen.
How do I feel knowing Christ is with me? I feel motivated. How about you?
